St. Louis County Halts Photography Fee After Outcry

CLAYTON, MO (KMOX) - St. Louis County’s controversial new fee for photographers has been suspended, at least temporarily, following an outcry on Facebook against it.

“County Parks staff is going to review the policy but this is really not any different than what a lot of other businesses [do]. When they utilize County parks they get a permit to sell. An example would be a boot camp in one our parks,” St. Louis County Parks director Tom Ott said.

Ott stresses that the permits would only be asked of professional photographers, not parents taking pictures before a prom. “We’re not there to charge the family. This is for a commercial photography business.”

The fee for a permit would be $50 per day or $200 per year plus the cash a photographer would have to pay for liability insurance.
